Music Technology at Plume College
This course is designed to open up a range of exciting and useful tasks to a wide candidature, and to encourage students to learn about the subject. Students, including those who do not play a traditional instrument, are encouraged to explore their musicality and create original materials using technology.
Programme of Study – AS Level
Unit 1: Music Technology Portfolio 1 – a portfolio of MIDI sequencing and multi-track recording tasks, and a logbook providing information on the resources used in each task
Unit 2: Listening and Analysing – a listening examination to assess students’ understanding of the development of popular music styles from 1910 through to the present day
Programme of Study – A2 Level
Unit 3: Music Technology Portfolio 2 – a portfolio of three tasks; creating a backing track with live audio tracks, a multi-track recording and a composition of a brief set by the examining board, and a logbook providing information on the resources used in each task
Unit 4: Analysing and Producing – an examination to assess the students’ musical understanding, their ability to manipulate and correct recorded music and their ability to write commentaries on technological processes, and their ability to produce a balanced stereo mix
GCSE grade C in Music. There will be a pre-course task as part of the Guidance Discussion/audition process. Students must successfully complete an audition.
