BTEC First Award in Construction at Chiltern Hills Academy

Course description

This course is aimed at students who have an interest in working in the construction industry. It offers a seamless progression pathway to the full range of BTEC vocational qualifications. The course provides a personalised programme, which is relevant to the individual needs of the student.

The Edexcel BTEC Level 2 in Construction currently consists of two mandatory units plus optional units, this qualification is presently being rewritten and there maybe small changes to the units listed below. This course will be assessed via 25% external assessment and 75% coursework.

Mandatory units (Credit level)

  • Structure of the construction industry
  • Exploring health, safety and welfare in construction.

    Optional units include(four of these will be chosen by the teacher)

  • Unit 4: Use of science and maths in construction
  • Unit 5: Construction processes and operations for low-rise domestic building
  • Unit 7: Construction drawing techniques
  • Unit 8: Exploring carpentry and joinery
  • Unit 9: Performing joinery operations
