Qualification summary

 
Cleaners are a diverse group of people. Not all of them can be found mopping a corridor or hoovering under your desk. Indeed, they could be abseiling down a tower block to clean the windows no ladder can reach.
 
This Cleaning and Support Services apprenticeship is the industry’s professional qualification for all skilled cleaners.
 
The cleaning industry is an important, competitive and thriving one, estimated to be worth about £10bn annually and employing around 800,000 people.
 
This qualification is suitable for those already employed as a cleaner as well as those seeking employment of this type. It is suitable for anyone involved in basic cleaning operations.

Course content

This Intermediate Apprenticeship will last 12 months and is made up of the following components:

  • BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles (Technical Certificate)
  • NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning & Support Services (Vocational Qualification)
  • Functional Skills Maths (Level 1)
  • Functional Skills English (Level 1)
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Entry requirements

This is down to the eligibility of the candidate and also an Initial assessment.

The employer will also need to demonstrate suitability of training programme by completing a skills scan.

Assessment

Continuous Assessment in the workplace

Assessment reviews take place every 4 - 6 weeks

Financial information

An employer contribution is applicable and is dependent on the size of the organisation and the volume of participants on the training programmes.

 

Future opportunities

If you clean premises such hotels, pubs, nightclubs, you may be employed directly by the outlet or cleaning may be outsourced to a cleaning subcontractor who would employ you.

Prospects are good if you want to progress to supervisory and management level. You may then be able to use your experience to move into facilities management. Other options would be to become a specialist in a particular aspect of cleaning, or set up your own cleaning business.
