Coaching Development Centre at Sunderland College
This course is for budding coaches who would like to develop their coaching and teaching skills through volunteering opportunities while studying on a full time sports qualification.
This course will cover a range of areas involved with sports coaching including:
- Work experience in sport
- Sports coaching leadership
- Fitness testing
- Instructing physical activity
- Rules, regulations and officiating
As part of the course you will also undertake a variety of coaching related courses including a Level 1 coaching badge, the Community Sports Leaders Award and a coaching award in a disability sport.
You will need to have four GCSEs at a grade C or above including Maths and English.
This course is taught through a mixture of theory and practical lessons in our brand new Sports Academy at Bede Campus by Sports Leadership Academy accredited coaches.
You will also be provided with a coaching mentor who will provide help on accessing additional funding for extra courses and development opportunities.
The Coaching Development Centre also includes work experience placements to enhance your CV.
After successfully graduation from the Coaching Development Centre you could progress on to a higher education course at Sunderland College or university including Foundation Degrees in Sports Coaching or Exercise, Health and Fitness.
You could also move in to employment as a coach, sports co-ordinator, sport development officer or as an instructor in a gym or leisure centre.
