English Language AS Level (WJEC) at Lightcliffe Academy

Course description

English Language - AS Overview: The course studies how language works through the development of analysis in several areas (sound of words, meaning, kind of words, grammar). It also explores different forms of spoken language. Some creative work with a focus on analysis of language chosen for different audiences, purposes and forms will be undertaken as well as general analysis of a wide range of texts. Assessment: The AS Level course comprises: Unit 1: Introduction to the language of texts (written exam - 30%) Unit 2: Original writing and exploring spoken language (coursework - 20%)

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in English Language, which could lead onto higher education in English Language or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to English Language such as a Teacher, Journalist, or Editor. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking.
