Dance - Advanced / Intermediate Extended Diploma at Pendleton Sixth Form College

Course description

You will need dedication, drive and determination for this course and you will be rewarded through the many college productions we deliver, to improve your skill level and have a deeper understanding of dance within history, culture and today's industry.

Course content

These courses are highly practical with an emphasis on the choreography and performance of dance, supported by the physiology, history and context of dance performance. You will study units such as:

  • Jazz, tap, street and contemporary dance technique
  • Investigating practitioners' work
  • Choreography for live performance
  • Individual performance commission
  • Group performance workshop

You will analyse professional dance works in terms of Vocational and academic value. You will learn the historical context of dance and research into established practitioners of dance from different genres. You will also learn employability skills and gain industry knowledge

Entry requirements

Advanced Level   5 GCSE grades C/4s Plus audition

Intermediate Level   4 GCSE grade D/3s Plus audition

Assessment

You will study 13 units over the two years and are continually assessed and moderated. You will be assessed through a combination of performance and choregraphy, written papers, coursework and exams. Some unit tasks are externally set and assessed.

Financial information

All full-time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are an EU citizen.

Future opportunities

Many of our students are accepted into reputable dance centres such as LIPA, London Studio Centre, Laine Theatre Arts, Bird, Northern Contemporary and Laban.  Others have been successful in gaining places into prestigious universities for dance such as Roehampton and Middlesex.  This course allows you to broaden your prospects within the wider dance industry, following career paths such as a performer, choregrapher, producer, director, arts adminstration, dance historian, dance physiotherapy, dance therapy and dance lecturer. These are among a few career options explored on this course.
