Art and Design BTEC National Level 3 at Lowestoft College

Course description

If you have an ambition to follow a career in art and design, this course is for you. You will be introduced to a range of art and design specialist subjects before deciding which path you want to follow.

Course content

You will be following a programme which will offer a wide range of experience of 2D and 3D Art and Design practice including:

  • Fine Art
  • Illustration
  • Graphic Design
  • Ceramics
  • Photography
  • Product Design
  • Fashion and Textile Design including printmaking

Entry requirements

Three subjects at GCSE grade C or above (including English).


You are assessed on theoretical and practical course work. There will be two specialist units which are externally examined. Theory work will be based upon historical and contemporary contextual studies within the art and design industry. Practical sessions will be delivered to teach you specific techniques and processes that you will then apply to your own practice. You will be supported by individual tutorials where your progress can be discussed and help given. 

Future opportunities

Upon completion of the Extended Diploma you may be able to progress on to a Level 3/4 Foundation Diploma, a Foundation Degree or a BA (Hons) Degree, an apprenticeship or work placement as a junior designer.
