Art & Design - BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design at Calderdale College

Course description

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design builds and enhances your existing skills and techniques. It offers a specialist qualification that focuses on specific jobs within the Art and Design industry.

Course content

On this innovative and creative programme you will study the main areas of Art & Design, developing skills in:

  • Mixed Media
  • Graphics
  •  3D
  • Fashion
  • Textiles

You will then specialise in your chosen area. You will also learn about the creative industries, allowing you to map your future progression. During the course you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience and participate in the annual fashion show

Entry requirements

An intermediate course suitable for those who have at least 4 GCSEs at grades D or above to include Maths or English or a relevant/equivalent Level 1 qualification.  This could be a BTEC Introductory Diploma, a City and Guilds qualification, an NVQ Level 1, a GNVQ Foundation or relevant work experience.  Applicants will be asked to show  examples of their work at interview.


Assessment is continuous based on set projects and two external examinations.

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived.  Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.

Future opportunities

Candidates may wish to progress  to the BTEC Level 3 Diplomas in:  Art & Design and study Graphics,  Art & Design, 3D/Interior Design,  Fashion/Textiles, Fine Art or Media.
