This course is for those who wish to make a career in catering, either as a chef or waiter/waitress.

Course content

This course is appropriate for staff who work as waiting and serving staff within the organisation, or staff looking to extend their Hospitality qualifications.

Whilst working through the award your staff will be able to demonstrate the skills they already possess and develop new skills.

You will complete the following units Mandatory Units:

  • Maintenance of a Safe, Hygienic and Secure Working Environment
  • Working Effectively as Part of a Hospitality Team
  • Maintain food safely when storing, preparing and serving food
  • Give Customers a positive impression of yourself and organisation

And choose 6 more units from a range of optional units

Entry requirements

Initial meeting to discuss suitability of the qualification prior to enrolment. Although there are no formal entry requirements to the programme, the candidate should be literate and numerate and in a position to reflect on their practice and gather work-based evidence in a suitable job role.

Assessment

The course is delivered at the workplace by a qualified assessor. The assessor will visit the staff regularly to set work and help the candidate to complete the units needed for the award. Times for the visits will be arranged to suit the staff and assessor. The staff member proves they have achieved the award by gathering evidence and completing underpinning knowledge questions and tests.
