Aircraft Maintenance (Civil Aircraft) C&G Level 2 Diploma at Macclesfield College

Course description

This course is an entry level qualification which teaches you the basic elements of aeronautical theory and practical application. This course is recognised by the industry as relevant training for young people wishing to enter employment of further learning in the sector.

Course content

During this course you will study the following units:

  • Fundamentals of aviation mathematics and science
  • Fundamentals of aircraft gas turbine engine
  • Fundamentals of aircraft propellers
  • Human factors in aviation
  • Fundamentals of electrics and theory of flight
  • Fundamentals of airframe construction and systems
  • Fundamentals of aircraft electrical and avionics systems

Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade C or above. If you have achieved a grade C or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will engage in extending these skills through a Directed Study Programme.

Entry requirements

For this course you will need to have a achieved a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D or above to include Maths and ideally English and Science.

On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further. 

Assessment

All the units in this course are assessed by online multiple choice tests or by short written answer tests.

GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work.

Financial information

You will require a pair of overalls and safety shoes/boots for workshop sessions which will be discussed at interview.

Future opportunities

After successfully completing this course you may wish to apply to study the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering. After successful completion of the Level 3 course you may wish to progress on to a Higher Education course or a Degree at University.

This course is also recognised by the aeronautical industry and would benefit anyone looking to apply for apprenticeship opportunities in the sector.
