Biology A Level at Queen Mary's College

Course description

Biology is the scientific study of living organisms and processes. Advances in biology are having a major impact on our way of life. This course looks at a variety of contemporary biological topics, largely from a human aspect. At AS this includes aspects of life-style and health, the influence of genes, and some environmentally based themes. If you decide to follow the course through to a full A Level you will take some of these ideas further, as well as studying other topics including forensic science, exercise and co-ordination, and the brain and nervous system. The course involves a variety of learning approaches, including the use of on-line support materials accessed through a dedicated website. Practical laboratory work is integral, and in your second year an individual practical investigation forms part of your final A Level assessment.
