ICT at The Castle School

Course description

Thanks to ICT the world is growing ever smaller. It is a leading and expanding industry worldwide and is essential to the effective functioning of almost all organisations, large or small.

This course develops the knowledge and skills students need to be competent and informed ICT users and practitioners - from the hardware end to data manipulation, the development of high quality ICT related solutions and a range of creative applications there is lots here for the would-be IT-wizard. It complements a range of other courses, from Art Graphics to Mathematics.

Units 1 and 3 are theory units which cover the application and use of Information and Communication Technology. Information Systems in Year 12 covers the core of ICT and general principles and applications which the rest of the course builds upon. Units 2 and 4 are coursework units, which are completed over a year and develop skills in the use of Desktop Publishing, Powerpoint & Automated Routines (Unit 2) and use Microsoft Access to build a specific ICT solution (Unit 4).

Entry requirements

Minimum grade C in GCSE English and Mathematics. GCSE ICT not essential.
