Law A Level at New College Telford
If you have a genuine interest in the Law, enjoy reading and are able to express yourself in writing, then this course will suit you.
Assessment is 100% by written exam, so this course is aimed at students who find exams easier than coursework.
You will study the doctrine of precedent, Acts of Parliament, Delegated Legislation, Statutory Interpretation and European Union law. You will develop an understanding of legal method and reasoning and learn the techniques of logical thinking, as well as the skills necessary to analyse and solve problems by applying legal rules. You will study the English Legal System and Criminal Law.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grades A* to C including English Language at grade B with an average GCSE score of 5.4.
This course fits well with other A level subjects that lead to Higher Education. Students who have previously studied Law have gone on to degrees is areas such as Law, Sociology, Business Studies, Accountancy and Criminology and to careers in related fields.
This course combines well with a wide range of other advanced level courses. It could be combined with History and English, which develop similar skills. For those interested in a career in Accountancy/Business it could be combined with Business, Economics or Maths. For those interested in Criminology/Social Work it could be combined with Psychology or Sociology.
