Travel & Tourism Level 3 Diploma at Heart of Worcestershire College

Course description

Do you wonder what is involved in organising Glastonbury or the London Marathon? Have you ever thought about what it actually takes to co-ordinate other people's holidays? If so our Travel and Tourism courses could be just the ticket for you. From organising conferences and events to learning how to resolve problems in an emergency situation, this course will help you to develop skills needed to succeed in this fast paced industry.Our first class facilities include a dedicated Travel and Tourism teaching area which include a mock airline cabin and check in desk. Our supportive, knowledgeable team have extensive industry experience extending over Travel retail, Overseas Resort Operation, Cabin Crew, Cruising, Conference and Event Organisation, Tourist Information Centre, Adventure Tourism and Hospitality roles. 

You will learn about the key areas of the travel and tourism industry. You will find out about different types of tour operators such as Thomas Cook and Thomson Holidays, and learn how they put together package holidays, create brochures and promote their products. 

At our on-site travel agency, Spires Travel, you may have the opportunity to sample life as a Travel Agent. From package holidays and family resorts to eco-tourism and solo travel, you will help customers access a variety of different trips. 

The wide choice of careers in travel and tourism can be daunting. Luckily, we will introduce you to working in Human Resources, Ancillary Sales and Services or as a Tour Guide or Holiday Park Host. You will also learn how to run events, deal with emergencies and understand your employee rights. 

During the course, you will have the opportunity to visit a UK or European based holiday resort where you will gain first-hand experience of the running of the business and the products and services on offer. This will give you a good idea of the roles and responsibilities involved in different types of job.

Entry requirements

You will need five GCSE grades A-C, including a minimum grade C in English and maths. Alternatively, you will have achieved a Merit grade in a Diploma in Travel & Tourism Level 2. We will invite you to attend an interview to demonstrate your commitment to the course and passion for the travel industry. You will also need to provide a reference from your tutor.


You will be assessed through a combination of assignments, practical activities, presentations and on-line multiple-choice tests.

Future opportunities

After successfully completing your first year with a merit grade or higher, as well as achieving Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths, you will be able to progress on to an Advanced Diploma for your second year. You may then like to consider a degree in Travel and Tourism Management. You will have choose of a range of careers in tourism offices, airlines, hotels and resorts. Why not become an Event Organiser, Travel Agent or set up an independent travel business?

It boasts a vast and ever-changing menu of freshly prepared snacks, meals, soups and cakes made by our Chefs and catering students. Looking out over the River Severn, The View is the place in college to meet friends over coffee, relax with a book over cake, or sit down for some enjoyable, wholesome, home-cooked food without any of the effort of cooking or preparing it yourself.


      Make time for a milky latte and visit our Starbucks counter in The View. We have the only one in Worcester City Centre! So come sit back, warm up and relax with a cappuccino, or even grab a berry frappe to go!


      Our nurseries provide a happy, secure and stimulating place where learning through play is purposeful and fun! Our bright and spacious nurseries offer a wide range of flexible childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years old. The nurseries are recognised as 'outstanding' by Ofsted who also praised the training received by staff, and the atmosphere that the children enjoy.

      St Dunstan's

      St Dunstan's is a state-of-the-art building dedicated to our creative arts and hair and beauty provision in Worcester. Short-listed for the prestigious AJ Retrofit Awards, this modern building is home to our hair and beauty salon, art and design studios and coffee shop making it the perfect place for students to explore their creative side. Our hair and beauty salon, Fountains is open to members of the public.
