Physical Education A level at Edmonton County School

Course description

A Level PE allows you to mix theory with practical through studying sports performance, physiology, psychology and contemporary factors that influence PE.  This course will enable you understand  the body’s response to exercise, the learning of new skills, the relationship between sport and society and the influence the mind has on performance. 

Course content

Unit 01 – Physiological Factors Affecting Performance  (30%)

Unit 02 – Psychological Factors Affecting Performance (20%)

Unit 03 – Socio-Cultural Issues in Physical Activity in Sport  (20%)

Unit 04 – Performance in Physical Education  (30%)

Entry requirements

A* to B at GCSE Physical Education or Science. Merit or Distinction at Level 2 BTEC Sport.

Assessment

Unit 01 – 2 Hour external exam

Unit 02 – 1 Hour external exam

Unit 03 – 1 hour external exam

Unit 04 – Practical performance

Future opportunities

Degree courses in sports science or sports studies (such as physiotherapy, sports psychology, sports therapy or sports history), teaching or sports management. Careers in sports coaching and the leisure industry.
