BTEC Health & Social Studies at King Ecgbert
Practical and theory, work-related learning underpins our Health & Social Studies courses.
If a career within the Health or Social care sector interests you such as Nursing, Social Work, Teaching or other Health related careers then this course is an excellent choice!
The Health and Social care sector comprises of two sub sectors, Health care and Social care. For example, the Health care section encompasses all hospital activities, medical nursing homes and GP services
The social care sector includes residential nursing care, residential nursing facilities, residential care facilities, domiciliary care and social work.
You will be studying a range of units in relation to Health and Social Care, these may include;
- Human Lifespan Development
- Working in Health and Social Care
- Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care
- Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care
- Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs
- Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care
- Promoting Public Health
Students also undertake work experience within the Health and Social Care sector.
Students who have taken a BTEC Health and Social Care qualification at level 2 will be expected to have achieved at least a Merit grade overall. A good grade in Science and English is also desirable.
Each qualification listed in the ‘Qualification’ section has an exam, some qualifications have 2 exams. There is are also coursework units which contribute significantly to the final grade.
Our students have progressed onto reputable University degree courses such as Health & Human Sciences, Operational Department Practice, Child/Adult Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Psychology as well as Social work.
Students are able to progress within the sector through degree programmes in Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Pharmacy. There are more than 300 distinct career paths in this sector.
We are proud of our exceptional results. We have 100% pass rate with an outstanding 88% of students achieving Distinction*/Distinction grade (equivalent to an A* A at A-level).
