Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Advanced Apprenticeship at Northampton College

Course description

There is a high demand for skilled qualified technicians. This qualification covers activities relating to service technicians in the majority of garages, maintenance depots and dealers. The candidate can choose whether to work with light vehicles or heavy vehicles (Cars or Lorries). The Apprentice will complete the following:- Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3Functional Skills Level 2 in: - Mathematics- English- ICT- Employees Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and thinking skills (if not completed at L2)The programme is broken down into eight units and all candidates must cover the following units:- Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health and Safety- Maintain positive working relationships- Diagnose and rectify engine unit and component faults- Diagnose and rectify electrical auxiliary unit and component faults- Diagnose and rectify vehicle chasses unit and component faultsThe one remaining optional unit will be chosen to suit your business needs and can include:- Inspect vehicles- Overhaul mechanical unitsThe training will take place at both your place of work and at the College. You will need to attend college for six one week block periods per year, a total of 30 days per year.What's Next?Advanced Apprenticeship in Body and Paint

Course content

The candidate must be employed for approximately 30 hours per week within the motor vehicle industry.

Entry requirements

You must be in relevant employment to start an Apprenticeship.You must achieve 50% in level 2 diagnostics in English and Mathematics.

Assessment

Evidence is collected in a portfolio and will include workplace observations, professional discussions, witness testimonies, oral and written questions, online assessment and other evidence as appropriate to the job. Candidates will have a dedicated Assessor to guide and support them through the process. Average duration is 24 months.
