Course description

Do you want to find out everything the media industry has to offer, develop the key concepts and skills required for a successful career, and explore your own creative ideas? This Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technologies is the perfect place to begin. Focusing on all the tools and techniques you’ll need to create everything from 2D animations to TV and film productions, you will be using industry standard software and working to live briefs across a number of different areas, taking projects from research and idea development stages, through experimentation, to full creation of products! You’ll learn a huge variety of skills, including graphic and games design, digital photography, marketing and how to plan, pitch, present and promote work. The abilities you’ll develop will lay the foundations towards a future role in one of the largest and most exciting industries around.

Entry requirements

To enrol on this course, you’ll need to have at least 4 GCSEs at grade 3-4 (grade D) or above, including English Language. Alternatively, you’ll need a Level 1 vocational qualification with Functional Skills English Language at grade C or above. You should be between 16-18 years old too, have good communication skills, be able to work individually and as part of a team, with a strong interest in creative media or a portfolio that illustrates your interest. There are a number of different units throughout the course, and a final major project at the end of the year that will make up your overall grade. Assessment takes on a variety of methods, and looks at everything from your research and problem solving skills to your practical production techniques.Using modern, advanced technologies is a key part of the course, so assessment methods reflect this, with screen capturing, audio recordings and verbal presentations just some of the ways we’ll check your skills are developing in the right direction!

      Openshaw is a suburb of east Manchester, a short bus ride from Manchester’s city centre. Openshaw Campus is built at the heart of the community with an open plan design and attractive green space and water features. Sportcity and the City of Manchester Stadium are close to the campus. Sportcity has a number of sports venues and fitness and sports facilities for the public. There is a 14-screen cinema five minutes away by car or 25 minutes on foot.
