Media Studies A Level at Brimsham Green School
Media Studies is an exciting course, covering a wide variety of media theory and practice.
Students will study the contemporary media landscape exploring topical issues and debates.
In light of individual research they will be given the opportunity to develop a range of practical skills and produce convincing media products. Students must be prepared to think critically and should have a prior interest in media production and theory.
Students take four equally weighted units over two years.
Unit 1: Investigating the media - is assessed through an end of unit examination in which students analyse existing media products and show their understanding of cross-media issues.
Unit 2: Creating media – is a response to a media brief.
Unit 3: Critical Perspectives – requires students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of current media issues by responding to media texts and topics in an examination.
Unit 4: Research and Production – allows students to explore a particular area of the media that interests them.
We live in a media saturated world. Any university course or career requires students to think critically and analyse effectively.
Media studies prepares students well for both. Additionally, Media sits well within the creative disciplines and provides practical skills essential in the modern workplace.
