English Literature A Level at Halesowen College

Course description

The course offers you the opportunity to read widely, and to write analytically and creatively in response to what you have read. Your reading will include prose, poetry and drama, by readers from diverse backgrounds.

Entry requirements

  • At least 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C across a range of subject areas, including both English Language and English Literature

You will need to retake GCSE Maths as part of your programme if you do not have a grade C. You may be advised to retake GCSE Science, depending on your chosen career.


Assessment

The course is assessed by written exams (60%) and coursework (40%).


Further information

This course is well suited to those who love reading and writing and talking about texts. There are opportunities throughout the course to take part in extra curricular activities, such as visits to Shakespeare's Globe, theatre trips and meeting visiting speakers. There will also be an opportunity to write for wider audiences about a range of subjects in a departmental magazine.

English Literature cannot be combined with A Level English Language and Literature.
