Chemistry A-Level at Christ's College Finchley
The Science department is popular and successful. Located on the third floor of the main school building it has 10 laboratories, 1 computer suite and 2 dedicated technician preparation areas. The department has a huge range of teaching experience from all 3 subject specialisms.
The teachers are well supported by our laboratory technicians.
As well as being awe inspiring, challenging and enjoyable; lessons are designed to get pupils thinking and making progress. All pupils get formative and verbal feedback on a regular basis to ensure that they know how to make the necessary progress.
The department also facilitates the running of a Science club, a STEM club and an internationally successful robotics club.
There are programmes which aid pupils to obtain the skills required to enter the best universities in the UK.
For studying at Advanced Level
Applicants must achieve a minimum average GCSE score of 40 points (where A* counts 58 points, A as 52, B as 46, C as 40, etc.). Students who have studied at BTEC Level 2 must have achieved a high Merit grade as a minimum. In addition there are GCSE requirements for individual subjects, where they are oversubscribed. Where subjects are oversubscribed, places will be offered to students in rank order of their average point score.
Subject specific requirements
A Grade B is the normal requirement in the subject you wish to study at Advanced Level but a Grade B does not guarantee acceptance on to the course. Where a course is under-subscribed consideration will be given to those candidates who marginally fail to meet the entry requirements.
For the Chemistry A-Level specifically you must achieve the following:
GCSE Maths - C
GCSE Science - BB
GCSE Chemistry - B
Where individual Science subjects have been taken at GCSE a B in the particular AS subject to be studied will be required at GCSE.
