Music Performance Btec at Writhlington School

Course description

Develop a range of skills, techniques and attributes essential for becoming a successful musician. Students focus on the Performance aspect of being a musician combined with units covering Music Technology and creating and marketing a music product.

Course content

Year 12

Unit 23 Music Performance Techniques: The aim of this unit is to enable learners to develop their techniques for both solo and group performance, from practice through to performance

Unit 33 Solo Music Performance Skills: This unit enables the learner’s continued development of the specific skills required by a solo performer

Unit 24 Music Project: Putting on a live music concert.


Year 13

Unit 4 Aural Perception Skills: The aim of this unit is to help learners develop a critical ear and knowledge about melodic parts, harmonic progressions, rhythms and texture.

Entry requirements

Five GCSE Grade 4 to 9. Students require either a Btec Level 2 Music Performance or a GCSE Grade 4 in Music.


One unit is externally assessed with the remainder being internally assessed.

Future opportunities

Professional musician, Music Therapist, Education Outreach Project Leader, Music teacher.

Further information

Pupils will need to continue individual lessons on their chosen main instrument or voice.
