Course description

Why should I choose Drama?

If you would like to pursue a career in theatre or television as an actor, director or playwright, this course introduces the process of performing, devising and analysing drama in more depth than BTEC/GCSE.

Course content

The GCE Drama and Theatre Studies course has 4 units; in the AS year, students are required to do

Unit 1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre and Unit 2: Theatre Text in Performance. Unit 1 involves the students producing 3000 word evaluation notes, and a 1000 word evaluation of live theatre. Unit 2 is externally assessed practical performances, with the students required to write a 500 word performance concept.

The A2 course has 2 Units: Unit 3: Exploration of Dramatic Performance – Internal assessment: Creation and performance or design of original piece of drama Unit 4: Theatre Text in Performance – External assessment: 2 ½ hour written examination on a set text and historical performance conditions.

Future opportunities

The AS and Advanced Level GCE can lead to further study in drama, Theatre Studies and performing arts in Higher Education. It can be used alongside other A Levels to develop your communication skills or it could lead to a career in the performing arts industries.
