Sport BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Brownhills School

Course description

This award is suitable for keen sports students who may wish to study this alongside other subjects which may allow them to access courses within the sports sector if they choose. You will need to have a keen enthusiasm for sport, both theoretically and practically, and an intrest in the direct aspects of sport and leisure.

Course content

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport is a qualification that is directly equivalent to two full A-Levels and carries a maximum of 240 UCAS points. In the BTEC Diploma in Sport, you will study 13 units over two years covering a range of topics.

You will be taught by specialist teachers in classrooms and have access to the sports hall, gym, tennis courts, swimming pool, field and fitness room. Projects are submitted for marking on a regular basis throughout the course.

They are assessed internally by your teachers and then moderated by the Edexcel. Work is graded and written feedback provided, enabling students to gauge how well they are doing on the course. Feedback will help you to see the strengths of your work, as well as allowing you to reflect on areas which can be developed further. Your work will be graded Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.

Year 13
  • Work Experience in Sport (10 credits)
  • Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport (10 credits)
  • Sports Development (10 credits)
  • Sports Coaching (10 credits)
  • Practical Team Sports (10 credits)
  • Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (10 credits)


Entry requirements

Admission criteria varies according to the programme. Priority will be given on all courses to students who have an A*- C in English and Maths.


This course comprises of 100% coursework completed in practical and theoretical units. Assignments will be based on realistic workplace situations.
