Physical Education A/S at University Academy Keighley
This course builds on students experience in GCSE and enhances their knowledge and understanding of the factors that effect performance and participation in Physical Education. At AS, the course will develop students knowledge and understanding of the opportunities for, and the effects of leading a healthy and active lifestyle. They will also be given the opportunity to develop and improve their personal skills and techniques through practical sessions. At A2, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of how to optimise performance and evaluate contemporary issues within sport. They will also produce coursework based on their performance in one competitive situation.
It comprises of two 2 hour examinations (one per year), one piece of written coursework at A2 level and externally moderated practical coursework both years.
AS Level - students are assessed in 2 roles from - performer, coach and official. They are assessed on activities chosen by the PE department that are suitable to the gender mix and number in the group; previously these activities have been badminton and rounders. Students also have the opportunity to be assessed in their own chosen activities such as football or swimming, but they must be prepared to gain their own video evidence of the core skills and an adapted game. This evidence must be submitted by February half term.
A2 - students are assessed in 1 of the roles from AS level but this must be in a full, competitive game or situation. Students will again have to gather video evidence of their own performance in order to complete their written coursework.
Must have taken GCSE PE and achieved grade C or above, and Science. Must be actively playing competitive sport at club level.
University - Sports Studies/ PE/ Sports Science and other related degrees.Developing Coaching/ Performance and Officiating.
