French A Level at Southend High School for Girls

Course description

What will you learn at AS?
Students examine issues within four main topics: Media,
Popular Culture, Healthy Living and Family and Relationships.
Students will develop their abilities to communicate in
written and spoken French and deepen their understanding
of the cultures of the countries where French is spoken.
Listening, reading and writing make up 70% of the
examination and speaking 30% at AS and A2.

What will you learn at A2?
A2 topics include Environment, Multicultural Society and
Social issues. Students research and debate topics and
also study two cultural topics which in recent years have
included Brittany, the Occupation of France and the Films
of François Truffaut.
We encourage students to read and listen to as much
French as possible and there will also be weekly sessions
with the Assistante. In recent years there have been
opportunities for work experience in Nice and participation
in European Classes at Alden Biesen.
