If you have, you will find Biology really exciting! Biology is the study of life - it affects everyone and everything on the planet. It is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to explore the way living things work and live together on earth.
You will study a range of interesting topics, such as cell structure, the human body, biochemistry, biodiversity, health, disease, exercise and ecology.
There will be lots of opportunities for laboratory practicals and fieldwork.
To follow a Science Programme (one that includes any two of these courses: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths) you will need an average GCSE score of 5.5 plus a minimum B in Maths and a B in Science (core) and a B in Additional Science or GCSE Biology.
To take Biology alongside non science AS courses, you need to meet standard college entry criteria and will need a minimum B in Maths and a B in Science (core) and a B in Additional Science or GCSE Biology.
Biology A Level will allow you to go to university to study a wide range of subjects. Career options include working in the microbiological field, pharmaceutical industry, hospital laboratories, nutritional industries, working with animals, research laboratories and environmental areas. If you wish to study medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, physiotherapy or other medical-related degrees, you will need a very good grade in Biology.
There will be opportunities for field trips and day trips to enrich your learning. In addition, you will be able to attend conferences, university workshops and to hear from guest speakers about current biological issues. You will work in laboratories at College benefitting from the most up-to-date technology and equipment.
