Geography at St Bede's Catholic Comprehensive School and Sixth Form College, Lanchester
AS Geography provides you with opportunity to study aspects of physical, human and environmental geography.
Unit 1 (global challenges) consists of two compulsory topics:
- World at risk
- Going global
This unit focuses on the issues of global hazards and globalisation at the broad scale. However, it also provides smaller-scale case studies and opportunities to explore how your life interacts with these global challenges.
Unit 2 (geographical investigations) provides opportunities to develop your fieldwork and research
skills. Four topics are offered and you must choose one physical and one human topic.
A Level Units:
A2 Geography provides an opportunity to engage with key 21st century issues.
Unit 3 (contested planet) consists of six compulsory topics:
- Energy security
- Water conflicts
- Biodiversity under threat
- Superpower geographies
- Bridging the development gap
- The technological fix
Unit 4 (geographical research) provides the opportunity to study one topic that interests you in depth. Topics range across the physical, environmental and human geography spectrum. There are six options to choose from:
- Tectonic activity and hazards
- Cold environments
- Life on the margins
- The world of cultural diversity
- Pollution and human health risk
- Consuming the rural landscape; leisure and tourism
Grade B or above in Geography or English Language
