Fitness and Physical Activity YMCA Award Level 1 at Boston College

Course description

This Level 1 course is designed for students who wish to gain a fitness qualification to further their career aspirations in the fitness industry, or prepare them for further training or education. 

As well as an stand alone qualification, this course is also offered to current sport students as an additional qualification to their courses.

Course content

To gain the Certificate you will complete modules in: 

- Exercise and fitness knowledge 
- Participating in physical activity 
- Exploring personal fitness 
- Understanding the health and fitness industry 
- Assist in the delivery of an exercise session 
Teaching and learning will take place in both the gym and classrooms.

Entry requirements

You should have an active interest in fitness training and demonstrate a proven commitment and enthusiasm for the profession in the form of a positive reference. 

Key Stage 4 qualifications will also be considered.


The course is assessed through workbooks, practical individual work and an examination.
