Physical Education A Level at Dormers Wells High School

Course description

This A level course allows learners to study Physical Education (PE) in an academic
setting, enabling them to critically analyse an evaluate their physical performance and apply their experience of practical activity in developing their knowledge and understanding of the subject.

Course content

A level PE will create confident, independent thinkers and effective decision makers who can operate effectively as individuals or as part of a team – all skills that will enable them to stand out and effectively promote themselves as they progress through life.

Entry requirements

A grade C in GCSE PE is desired. A combination of 9 for English and Maths (minimum of grade 4 in either) and three further A*-C GCSE passes including a grade C in GCSE Science (Core/Additional) or a grade C in GCSE Biology for Triple Science students.

  • Socio-cultural issues in physical activity and sport

  • Contemporary issues in physical activity and sport
  • 20% of A Level
Component 4:
  • Performance in physical education
  • Performance or coaching
  • Evaluation and analysis of performance for improvement
  • 30% of A Level
 

 

Future opportunities

This course will prepare learners for the further study of PE or sports science courses as well as other related subject areas such as psychology, sociology and biology.
 
Learners will also develop the transferable skills that are in demand by further education, Higher Education and employers in all sectors of industry such as physiotherapy, leisure management and PE teaching.
 
Successful completion of A level Physical Education can also lead to a career as a coach or official within sport.
