A Level: Design and Technology: Product Design (Graphics) at Rawlins Academy

Course description

The structure of this course allows students to advance their design and making skills by demonstrating their creativity through a substantial independent design and make project. Students will develop their research, analysis, product development, project planning, prototype manufacturing, testing, modification and evaluation skills.The course also develops knowledge and understanding of the principles of Design and Technology which is tested as a written examination.

Entry requirements

Rawlins Level 3 P16 entry requirements. 

C grade at GCSE in Product Design or a relevant Design and Technology Subject. If you have not studied Product Design at GCSE you will be required to produce a portfolio of your work in April of Year 11.

Assessment

Coursework Deadline: March - Written Examination: June

Future opportunities

Many students who study Product Design go to university to study subjects such as Product Design, Manufacturing, Industrial Design, Engineering or Architecture. However, an A Level in Product Design isn’t just for those students who want to specialise in these areas. It allows you to add a creative slant to other subjects you choose. You will learn a number of skills, such as presenting work, developing ideas, problem solving, improving communication, which are all skills which can be transferred into most careers.
