Business BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Brockenhurst College

Course description

This course is designed to give you an understanding of business organisations and the markets they serve. This will be valuable background information in your working life and particularly relevant for anyone involved in management or business.

The BTEC Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels.

Course content

The Extended Diploma is a practical work related TWO YEAR course.  You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities. 

The course comprises 18 units – four core units plus fourteen specialist units. 

You can study particular areas in depth eg marketing, finance, event planning, starting your own business and human resources. 

The course also includes two weeks work placement in the second year and there is the opportunity to participate in a programme of visits to business organisations.

A variety of approaches will be adopted, which will include direct teacher input, case study assignments and simulations, role play, personal research, class discussions and teamwork.  In addition you will have the opportunity to plan and run a business event.

Entry requirements

You will need 4 GCSE passes at grade C (2 of these subjects must be English and Maths) or a BTEC First Diploma at Merit or above, plus English and Maths. 

If you wish to take an A level subject in your programme you should have achieved at least 5 subjects at grade C or above.

Assessment

The course is assessed by assignments.  There are no examinations.

Future opportunities

The course fulfils the entry requirements for a range of degrees, HND and professional higher education courses.  BTEC National qualifications are also valued by employers and lead to career opportunities in business specialisms such as finance, human resources, management or marketing as well as other business related careers. 

Learners may also progress within employment to professional qualifications such as those offered by the Chartered Institutes of Marketing, Management Accountants and Personal Development.  Learners may progress into higher education degree courses or BTEC Higher National courses.
