Environmental Science at Turton High School & Sixth Form College

Course description

If you are interested in the environment, want a a career in environmental management or nature conservation, or simply want to understand our world a little better, then this course could be for you. 

recognised a science by all universityies the new AQA Environmnetal Science course covers a wide range of topics from nature conservation to resource and mineral extraction.  Modern scientific techniques are applied to understand and suggest solutions to many of the pressing issues facing the planet.

  • How do we protect biodiversity?
  • What is the solution to resource depletion?
  • How can new technoligies help protect the planet and its wildlife?
  • These questions and many more are answered in this course and lay the foundation of  future stuides.

This course fits nicely with other sciences such as Biology and Chemistry or alongside Geography. 

This course also involves daytrips out into the surrounding area to practice scientific sampling techniques as well as taking part in a week long feild trip to the Isle of Arran.


A level 4/5 in Sciences and level 4/5 in Maths.

    • Turton Sixth Form is located on Chapeltown Road, Bromley Cross.  The college is across the road from Bromley Cross train station, and is on a direct line 8 minutes from Bolton.  Buses from Bradshaw, Sharples, Smithills, Edgworth, Belmont and Astley Bridge regularly run past the school.
