Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma Level 3 at Middlesbrough College

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences is the premier sports course at Middlesbrough College. The course is designed to prepare students for Higher Education in a Sport related subject, with over 95% of students progressing to their first choice University, or into employment within the Sport and Leisure Industry.

Course content

The course consists of eighteen units, both theory and practical, studied over two years including:- Anatomy for Sport and Exercise Sport and Exercise Physiology Sport and Exercise Psychology Sports Coaching. Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise Sports Injuries Laboratory and Experimental Methods in Sport and Exercise Sciences Research Project in Sport and Exercise Sciences Sports Biomechanics in Action Sport and Exercise Massage Sports Nutrition

Entry requirements

A minimum of four GCSE’s at grade C or above which must include Maths, English Language and Science. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

Students will be assessed through a variety of different methods, including assignments, presentations and practical observations. There are typically 2-3 assessments per unit and students will be awarded a pass, merit, or distinction depending on the quality of work produced.

Future opportunities

Currently, on completion of the course students can achieve up to 420 UCAS points * and progress to a sport related degree at University. Teesside, Durham, Northumbria and Leeds Beckett are popular destinations with our learners. In the last three years over 90% of our learners achieved a high grade of DMM or above, with 40% students achieving a D*D*D*, the highest possible grade. This further confirms this course as one of the highest achieving courses at Middlesbrough College and one of the best sports courses in the country.
