Music Technology A-Level at George Salter Academy

Course description

This course is ideal for students with strong musical skills who have an interest in the technology and the techniques used to record and produce music.

The course relies heavily on students developing analytical skills and a breadth of study to inform their developing technical work. Students will spend the majority of the course working in a practical context and be expected to answer questions based on this experience and techniques studied.

Progression routes from this course

This course offers excellent progression for students who wish to study Music Technology and or acoustical Physics at a higher level. This qualification allows students to explore and develop their knowledge/use of industry standard techniques.

6MT01: Sequencing and Recording Work

6MT02: Listening and Analysis Exam

6MT03: Coursework Portfolio

6MT04: Analysing and Producing


Assessment is ongoing throughout the year and final assessment is by submission of coursework portfolios to external examiners and a final written examination.

Entry requirements

At least a C at GCSE, or equivalent in BTEC Music/associated board music examinations.
