Retail Fashion Diploma at Solihull College & University Centre

Course description

Retail Fashion at level 2 can give you access to work experience with well-known retailers and an insight into the way retailers work. You will study an exciting range of specialisms including visual merchandising, introduction to buying and merchandising and fashion history, culture and trends. Once you have completed this course you will have gained an overview of the sector, explored the industry and be fully aware of career pathways.

Course content

During the course you will cover the following topics:

- Retail selling process/skills
- Understanding the fashion retail business
- Preparing to work in a fashion store
- The evolution of the fashion market place
- Principles of visual merchandising
- Understanding promotional activities in Retail

Entry requirements

2 Grade D/3s or above one of which must be English, a successful Interview and suitable references.

Assessment

All assessment is through practical coursework based projects. A variety of assessment methods will be used to assess your progress including presentations, reports and the creation of mood boards. You will also complete an element of work experience through work placements.

Future opportunities

On completion of this course you can progress onto a level 3 diploma and specialise in your chosen area. You can then progress into a career in the retail sector such as personal shopper, shop floor manager or visual merchandiser.

Further information

A minimum of 88% attendance is needed to complete the course however 100% is expected, Optional trips (e.g. Fashion Museum, Clothes show live, etc), Talks and demonstrations by external employers.

A4 Folder is required - Approx £5.00

Solihull College is part of the National Skills Academy for retail.

Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.

If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.
