Creative Media Production - BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diplonma at City and Islington College

Course description

Aged 16-18 and interested in a career in moving images - in film, TV, advertising or computer games? This challenging course will give you hands-on experience planning, producing and editing films and other visual content. It will also give you a grounding in the creative media industries as they exist today, and the history and theories that have underpinned their development. You can take this experience and knowledge with you into further education or work.

Course content

This two-year course consists of 19 units, including Research Techniques for the Media Industries, Pre-Production Techniques, Critical Approaches to Media Products, and Understanding the Media Industries. The course is largely practical and work-related. You will learn by completing projects based on realistic workplace situations.

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs, including Maths and English, at grade C or above. Alternatively, you will need a BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Merit or above, including Functional Skills.

All applicants need a good reference from a school or employer, and will need to complete a formal interview and assessment prior to full enrolment.


Assessment is by coursework and project work. 

Future opportunities

This Diploma is equivalent to two A Levels. Following the course, you can progress onto a Foundation Degree in Media. You can also seek employment in TV, film, video or radio production.
