ICT (Applied) AS & A Level at Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School
This broad-based qualification provides a more vocational perspective to ICT and employs an investigative and problem-solving approach to its study.
The course provides students with a progression route to higher education and further training for employment. It offers students the chance to personalise their path of study and obtain a qualification that meets their individual aptitudes and interests. The A Level is made up of three mandatory units at AS and three further units at A2.

While completing the AS course students will create a portfolio of different communications for an estate agency as well as a report on the different methods of communications available and the technologies that support them. The exam will look at how organisations, collect, disseminate and use information.
Students will also complete a research project looking at possible universities, courses and living arrangements in preparation for completion of UCAS. During A2 they will then design and create an interactive multimedia package, use DTP software to meet the exam board brief whilst using project management skills to plan the unit.
Students develop a wide range of skills required in ICT and apply these within work-related contexts. These include building an understanding of the main principles of solving problems using ICT, developing presentation and project management skills, and understanding the need to work with others.
