Assessment

The portfolios are marked by centres then moderated by AQA. The qualification is not holistically assessed, it has objective criteria to give a mark for each unit submitted, which are then aggregated to give a total mark.

Future opportunities

The scheme of assessment allows attainment to be recognised at standards consistent with National Curriculum Levels 1, 2 and 3. As an approved Entry Level Qualification, the specification provides excellent progression to GCSE studies, particularly in English.

The skills and knowledge acquired will be relevant and transferable in both educational and career settings. The qualification therefore increases flexibility for students and makes a distinct contribution to the quality and coherence of the Qualifications Framework.
In addition, it provides a worthwhile course for students of various ages and from diverse backgrounds in terms of general education and lifelong learning.
