Resistant Materials GCSE at The Beacon School

Course description

Design and Technology will prepare you to participate in rapidly changing technologies. You will learn to think and intervene creatively to improve quality of life. The subject entails working with wood, metals and plastics to become problem solvers, as individuals and as members of a team. In Resistant Materials you will investigate needs, wants and opportunities and respond to them by developing a range of ideas and making and evaluating products. You will combine practical skills with an understanding of social/environmental issues and industrial practices.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Design and Technology or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to Design and Technology and Electronics such as an Technician, Electrician or Design Engineer. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
