Physical Education at Uckfield Community Technology College School Sixth Form

Course description

If you are a hard working student who is interested in how sporting performance can be improved, then this course is for you.  Students experience activities from a range of perspectives, including performer, coach and official.  

The course is excellent preparation for students wishing to pursue a degree or career in sports studies or physical education.

Course content

This specification gives learners a clear appreciation of key issues in physical education

 

The practical component is worth 30% of the final A level. Students will be assessed in one activity and as a rule of thumb, anyone wishing to gain a C grade would need to be playing at a good club standard. To grade more highly students would need to be performing at a higher level.

 

The theory component comprises three areas:

 

Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics

Sport Psychology

Sport and society and technology in sport

 
 

The exam paper is made up of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing.

 

Entry requirements

A GCSE average of 5 including a 6 in GCSE PE and 4 in GCSE English.

30% practical

35% Paper I

35% Paper II
