Art and Design L2 Diploma at North Lindsey College
This is a one year course. The Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design qualification provides
the knowledge, understanding and skills for learners wishing to work towards a career in art, design or digital media. This course is designed to provide a taste of a wide range of disciplines including graphic design, fashion and textile design, photography
and 3-dimensional design.
The course is largely practical with some written work where learners will be asked to complete research tasks relating to working in the Art and Design industry and other people's work. Two of the units are externally assessed.
This course is equivalent to four GCSEs at Grades A*-C and will allow learners who complete their programme of study successfully to progress to a higher level of study.
The course is made up of practical and written projects and workshops, giving learners
the opportunity to expand their horizons within the field of art and design. Assignments on the course vary in timescale depending on the nature of the project.
The Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design is a 60 credit qualification, structured as follows:

- Introduction to Specialist Pathways in Art and Design
- Creative Project in Art and Design
- Practical Research Project in Art and Design
- Mandatory Units:
- Developing an Art and Design Portfolio
- Investigating Contextual References in Art and Design
- Applying Contextual references in Art and Design
- Optional Specialist Units (min 4 max 6):
- Graphic Design Briefs
- Textile Briefs / Printmaking Briefs
- 3-D Design Craft Briefs / Sculpture
- Digital Art and Design Briefs / Photography Briefs
Students who do not have a GCSE grade C or above in English or Maths will continue to study these subjects as part of their programme. of study.
The course has been developed for learners who have achieved a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade A-E. You will be required to have a C grade at GCSE or above in English and a creative arts subject. Applications are also welcome from learners who have completed a relevant Level 1 qualification and have met their personal targets. Mature learners who present a portfolio of work are also welcome and entry requirement qualifications may be flexible. All applicants will be required to attend an interview and present a portfolio of work that demonstrates their abilities to the required standard.
Your progress is measured in a number of ways including practical projects, written assignments, internal and external assessment. You will receive feedback about your work from your tutor. Assessment is continual throughout the course. Two units are set externally, assessed internally and verified by the awarding body in a similar way to GCSE exams. English and Maths will have formal exams.
Many learners have progressed to Level 3 diplomas and then to Higher National Diplomas or degree level courses at university and are now employed within the field of art, design and media.
