Drama A Level at Clacton County High School
Drama is an exciting and creative subject that builds confidence, independence and group work skills that are all essential in employment. It develops theoretical understanding and theatrical knowledge that are both essential in the industry, from the point of view of a director, designer, performer and critic, through workshops, theatre visits and coursework. Students create their own concepts and performances.
There is a practical exploration in a workshop style to understand practical and theoretical approaches to text, performance skills and knowledge and understanding which are continually assessed. There is also a theatre visit where you will complete a Live Theatre Review based on the performance seen and students perform their own monologue as part of the assessment of the course.

- Theatre in Text performance ~ monologue and group performance/Theatre in performance
- Devised group performance/Exploration of dramatic performance
- Theatre text in context ~ focus on a play written in Ancient Greece and a Shakespearian play or the detailed study of one set play text.
Essential: A minimum of six GCSEs (grades A*-C) is required, including Maths and English. Students will normally require a minimum of a GCSE (grade B) inDrama. Exceptions may be granted based on Drama/Performing Arts experience.
Desirable: GCSE Drama or Performing Arts, GCSE/BTEC English. Experience of performing in extra-curricular theatre companies and school productions.
