Business Studies A level at Edgbarrow School
Students are introduced to the challenges and issues of starting a business and explore the key functions of business including financial, marketing, human resources and operations management. Students will use problem solving to make decisions on these functions and how they interlink with each other. Strategies for larger businesses are considered, and how these strategies may change, including leadership and management. Students consider the effects internal and external factors can have on organisations, and how a business can plan for and manage change effectively.
There are three exams entitled Business 1, Business 2 and Business 3, each worth 33.3%. All three exams are synoptic and cover all of the content taught at A-Level. Assessment is a mixture of multiple choice, short answer, data response and essay questions.
There are ten main themes taught across the two year course including what businesses are, management and leadership, decision making in Finance, Marketing, Human Resources and Operations Management, strategic position, direction and methods and management of change.
A-Level Business develops many skills and students gain much insight into the business world. It is therefore appropriate for almost any chosen career path. In particular, roles in management, finance, marketing, human resources and operations are well served. The independent and analytical thinking nature of the course prepares students well for university.
