Course description

The Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make up is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop practical skills in make up application. The mandatory section of this qualification covers the creative art of applying photographic make-up and the ability to create a hair and beauty image based on a theme. The optional section of this qualification allows you to develop skills in instruction on make-up application, skin tanning , eye brow treatments , eyelash perming and nail art Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practice in a salon environment.

Entry requirements

3 GCSE Grade D or Above or a previous Level 1 Qualification ,and have a supporting reference from your tutor, attended an interview and completed the interview task to a competent standard.

You need to have a keen interest in hair and make up . You need to enjoy working and communicating professionally with people As part of the course you will need to perform treatments on clients . It is a requirement that students wear uniform and meet salon standards and this includes wearing hair up and removal of jewelry / piercings. Time tabling will include attending one late night until 8.45pm and will need to arrange appropriate transport home, as this reflects industry standards.

Assessment

You will complete . Multiple choice tests spread throughout the year . Written assignments to show good underpinning knowledge of each module . For practical elements, you will be observed by your assessor performing a competent treatment . All your work must be collected in a portfolio of evidence and cross- referenced to requirements listed in record of assessment book. You will treat clients in the commercial salon and will receive practice treatments from students.

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PURCHASE A KIT AND UNIFORM FROM THE COLLEGE

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

Future opportunities

To apply for this course you need to put in an application on line and attend an interview. You may want to support this interview by producing a sketch book showing your interest and experience in makeup.

Further information

You will need to receive all treatments as well as provide them to external clients. Clients are provided through the Oasis Salon, however, you may find that in order to complete an assessment you may need to provide your own clients. . Timetable is subject to change with notice provided, due to to salon timetables. . You will complete Work Experience in Local Salons and Beauty related stores for a period of not less than 30 hours. . 30 hours of Employability and enrichment activities will also need to be completed with Training events/ workshops on HD brows . Involvement in events for charity and supporting the local community such as visiting the local hospital and providing treatments . You will need to show that you have developed your Maths and English skills whilst you are on the course. This may mean you sit GCSE or functional skills qualifications
