History A Level at Gordano School

Course description

We focus on 19th and 20th Century European and British History with a combination of
content that builds from GCSE studies (Nazi Germany, Superpower Relations) as well
as new challenges (Italian Unification, Russia under the Tsars, British political history).

Course content

The making of modern Russia 1855 – 1991.
Coursework: Historical interpretations of the Russian Revolutions in 1917.

Entry requirements

Students who have not studied History at GCSE but have been successful in other key subject areas (Geography, English Literature, etc.) could be well placed to take up
History at A level.

Future opportunities

A degree in History is highly regarded and prepares students well for a wide range of careers such as Law, Journalism and Business. Students also go on to study such subjects as Ancient History, Archaeology, Politics and American Studies. Some Gordano History students are now working in Brussels for the EU, in the House of
Commons, in high ranking Banking jobs, the Foreign Office and running their own highly successful businesses.
