A Level: Art (Fine Art) at JC6: Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre

Course description

Art is a practical, creative subject which offers you opportunities to develop your own individual creativity, whilst learning about and using a wide range of artistic mediums and techniques. From the start of the course, students are encouraged to develop their ideas by investigating practitioners and techniques and experimenting with a wide range of resources, media and materials. In the second year students work to a brief which they develop themselves and build a broad portfolio of work which they can use for interviews as well as towards thier final A level grade.     

Course content

Consider Art if:

  • You enjoy challenging yourself creatively and academically.
  • You are interested in learning about new and upcoming artists.
  • You work well independently.

Entry requirements

JC6 General entry requirements including:

  • Minimum of Merit grade at Art Level 2 or grade 5 or above at GCSE.
  • OR if you have not studied Art at KS4, submission of a portfolio of your work to Mr Moore, Head of Art, for special consideration.

Assessment

By coursework portfolio and end of course examination.

Future opportunities

Art A level combines well with other creative subjects, or provides breadth when combined with humanities or science subjects, showing your creativity. It is a useful qualification for students who want to go on to study a wide range of degree courses including Architecture, Fashion, Design, Journalism, Graphic Design, Media Studies. Photography or Fine Art. It also give evidence of skills in demand for employment in the creative and media industries.
