Art, Design and Ceramics - BTEC Level 1 Diploma at Harrow College

Course description

Students considering a career in Art and Design.

 

This course gives a broad view of art and design. You will study Painting, Drawing, Photoshop, Ceramics, 3D and Other People's Art. You will also work to improve English and Maths skills if required through Functional Skills.

Course content

Most of your lessons will be in art workshops and you will be doing practical artwork and taking notes in your sketchbooks. The lecturers will demonstrate techniques and the use of tools and materials. You will also be taken on visits to art galleries and museums.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grades D-F including at least one from the following; Art, Textiles or Design and Technology and an art portfolio. For your interview you can bring your GCSE Art coursework and sketchbooks. Evidence of Entry 2 Literacy and Numeracy is required.

Assessment

You will complete sketchbooks and final pieces for each subject, writing comments about your work and a final evaluation. These art pieces will be assessed and you can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade.

Future opportunities

This course can lead to jobs in Graphic Design, Games Design, Web Design, Fashion and Textiles Design. It can also lead to a BTEC First Diploma in Art, Design and Media.
