Painting and Decorating - Level 1 Diploma at Yorkshire Coast College
This is a basic introductory course covering the practical and job related knowledge required for a career in painting and decorating.
This course is aimed at school leavers or at those wishing to enter the construction industry for the first time.
The course will include the following units:
- Health, safety and welfare in construction
- Principles of construction work
- Erecting and dismantling access equipment
- Preparing surfaces for decoration
- Applying paint systems by brush and roller to non-complex surfaces
- Hanging foundation papers and plain papers
- Produce specialist decorative finishes
GCSEs grade E to G or equivalent, including Foundation Awards and Entry Level Certificates. You will also need to demonstrate a genuine interest in the construction industry. Steel toe cap shoes are a MUST for the practical activities in the workshop.
You will also require Overalls or a Painters Bib and Brace. Tools and equipment are provided but it is encouraged that students purchase their own brushes and some basic tools. For theory all necessary stationary - pens, pencils, drawing equipment, scale ruler, lever arch file, note paper and calculator etc.
After successfully completing the Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating you could improve you construction skills by progressing on to one of our many Level 2 Diploma courses.
There are excellent career prospects, and of course the opportunity to set up your own business, available to anyone with a construction qualification.
The local average wage on entry to a career in Painting and Decorating – depending on qualification – is £15,000.
