Core Maths L3 at Ormiston Park Academy

Course description

Do you have an interest in mathematics but do not want to continue studying to A level? Core Maths has been designed for students that want to keep studying maths and apply those skills to real life situations. Core Maths topics support students to meet the requirements of other qualifications such as physics, psychology, biology and business. Core Maths will equip you to apply for employment of higher level apprenticeships in a wide range of industry sectors, professional training or university.

Course content

Throughout your studies you will develop your learning from GCSE maths increasing and applying comprehension skills that deal with real-life contexts. You will learn to apply statistics, probability, linear programming, sequences and growth.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above. Grade C or above in Maths.

Assessment

You will be taught in a theoretical and practical setting and assessed via written exam papers.

Future opportunities

Your successes in this subject can contribute to furthering your education at university contributing towards a main degree in another subject such as psychology, computing, engineering or business. Core Maths will provide the basis for entry into a career such as engineering, computing, teaching, finance, and research and development. Access to higher level apprenticeships is increased by studying this qualification. There is a very high demand for mathematicians in the workplace, which means studying this qualification and succeeding in your studies will give you a wide range of options.
